Conclusion

Nepal is a landlocked country with a population of 27 million people, 83% of whom live in rural areas and 31% who live on less than $1 per day. Subsistence agriculture is the main source of livelihood for a popuation that is extremely diverse with ethnic groups who speak an estimated 92 different languages. The consequences of a lack of sanitation, inadequate clean water supply and poor hygiene practices are devastating for the population. It would be sad to see Nepal follow a western develpment response to these problems when Asian, and especially Nepali expertise and solutions, are available and valid to create a clean, safe living environment that leads to good health.
